Recommendation Letters

Good recommendation letters require time, coordination, and effort. If you have worked with me on a Honors/independent research project, served as a teaching assistant, or taken one of my classes, I am happy to write a letter for you provided you give me enough notice.

In general, I require 2 weeks’ notice at a minimum. Please email me the following materials:

  1. A list of the programs you intend to apply for. This list should include due dates and information about whether I will receive an email from the program later, or whether you need me to email a contact person directly with my reference letter.
  2. Your most updated CV/resume
  3. An unofficial transcript
  4. Any additional information that may help me write a positive letter for you. If you were a student in one of my classes, I teach over 100 students a semester and cannot remember details about everyone. Reminders help jog my memory/retrieve your old course records, so please specify:
    • Class/semester/grade received
    • Whether you attended office hours, spoke up in class, submitted a great group project, or perhaps I referenced one of your assignments as an example during class
    • Any additional details about your experience in the class to help me make your letter as personalized as possible.
